Each of the 130 wards in Johannesburg has been assigned ten metro cops from this month.
This comes after the mayor Parks Tau decided to take back the streets.
Tau’s goal is for the city to work with communities and residents to create neighbourhoods where every man, women and child can feel safe.
The mayor’s office said in a statement that they want residents to trust and support the metro police with their fight against crime.
