Economist Mike Schussler says South African consumers can expect food prices to increase in coming months.

He told journalists in Johannesburg that the increase will be due to droughts, higher input costs, and mergers.

Schussler says the poorest will be the hardest hit, as they spend 40 per cent of their income on food.

Meanwhile, senior South African economist Dawie Roodt sees the breaking up of the Eurozone as inevitable.
