Despite financial troubles the European Union is sponsoring the studies of 90 South African students to study postgraduate degrees in various fields at universities in Europe .
Students from ten local tertiary institutions are on their way to Europe as part of the EU-funded international Erasmus Mundus programme.
Spokesperson for the EU Delegation in South Africa Berene Kramer says higher education is key to a growing economy that will lead to a better life for all.
She adds that the reason the programme was established is because South Africa has a very serious shortage of high level human resources and low masters and doctoral achievements.
