A student drowned in Clifton Beach

The National Sea Rescue Institute and the Table Bay volunteer sea rescue crew were activated on Wednesday following a report of a missing student at Clifton's Fourth Beach.

The 23 year-old was swimming at Duiker Rock, with fellow college students.

The SA Police Services, Western Cape Government Health EMS, the City of Cape Town Disaster Risk Management, Police Divers, Law Enforcement officers, Camps Bay Community Medics and the EMS Skymed helicopter assisted in the search. 

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said during a Police dive search the body of the man was located and recovered from under water and recovered onto a sea rescue craft and declared deceased by paramedics.

Lambinon added that the body of the man has been handed into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.
