The Democratic Alliance says they will not allow President Jacob Zuma and his government to get away with spending nearly a quarter-of-a-million-Rands on a private residence at Nkandla.

DA Chief of staff Geordin Hill-Lewis said they have written to different government departments, requesting a thorough explanation on what basis the expenditure was approved.

DA Parliamentary Leader Lindiwe Mazibuko had requested to know how much President Zuma will be contributing to the revamp of his Nkandla.

The request was thrown out by Parliament’s questions office.

Mazibuko said this decision, sets a dangerous precedent in allowing Parliament to protect the President from answering difficult questions, and undermines the objective of written questions, which is to ensure that the executive is held to account.
