The death toll from the recent floods in the Eastern Cape could rise as police are still searching for two men missing in Port Elizabeth and Kirkwood.

Nineteen-year-old John Smit was swept off a bridge in Kwanobuhle on Sunday.

The police’s Priscilla Naidu says the search is also continuing for a 32-year-old Kirkwood man who was swept away by the Wit River on Saturday.

Last week, emergency workers said eight people had died in the storms that hit the province.
