October 2012 At least eight people have died in storms
and flooding that continued to cause havoc in the Eastern Cape. More than a thousand people in Port Elizabeth alone had to be
evacuated from their homes and given shelter in community centres. Part
of the N-2 between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown
has had to be closed to traffic as a gaping hole was carved out of the highway
near the Pumba Game Reserve. The SandRiver bridge between
Cape St Francis and St Francis Bay was washed away.
