The Freedom Front-Plus has been questioning the reason for the South African coasts not being patrolled.

Freedom Front Plus’ Pieter Groenewald says the coasts have not been patrolled since March this year.

Groenewald said that the way the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has handled the contract of Smit Amandla Marine has led to the coasts not being patrolled.

He added that Smit Amandla Marine was paid millions to keep the vessels operating.

The Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula today revealed that none of the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Department’s patrol vessels used by the Navy are currently operational.

Mapisa-Nqakula was responding to Parliamentary questions when she told Parliament that a majority of the vessels are undergoing maintenance.
