Metro police have been told by Head of Nyanga cluster General Jeremy Veary to leave more serious crimes to the skilled SAPS to do.

He said the City’s focal point should be on its directive around the enforcement of by-laws he also says that all specialised competencies were met by the SAPS on a much higher scale than Metro police.

He also instructed the SAPS to withdraw from all joint operations with City law enforcements.

JP Smith Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security said that he doesn’t understand why Veary feels that the working relationship isn’t working.

Further more he says that they have an extremely good relationship at police level with SAPS and says that he seems to misunderstand the powers of Metro police.

And he feels that Metro police has added huge value around criminal activity in and around Cape Town and he says that Metro Police are very commited
