The South African Human Rights Commission has strongly condemned the brutality of an attack on an awaiting trial prisoner in police custody in Upington in the Northern Cape.

The victim was allegedly assaulted at the beginning of October until he died in policecustody.

SAHRC Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said the matter is being investigated.

Mangena also said they received a complaint from the family of the deceased and they are worried by the number of reports that have been received from the same police station.
