24 roadblocks and Operations over the weekend in Western Cape

There were 24 roadblocks held over the Western Cape over the weekend.

2 687 vehicles were stopped and 1 171 drivers tested for blood alcohol levels.

14 drunk drivers were arrested, with the highest level reading at 1.45 mg/l.

7 more people were arrested for other charges including possession of drugs and possessing false documentation.

The Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa also said that they issued fines to the value of R162 900.

“Of the 23 366 vehicles checked for speed, 2 658 were prosecuted for exceeding the speed limit” Kenny added.

There were three reported fatalities over the weekend; one was during a head on collision between two vehicles in Vredendal on the N7.

Two other people died in a head-on collision between a truck and a quad bike.
