Road Traffic Management today said October was a significant month in the transport fraternity as it focused on massive public education campaigns.
RTM spokesperson Ashref Ishmail said that 3,309
motorists were arrested during October Public Transport Month.
The department’s Decade of Action 2011/2012
campaign seeks to reduce the number of crashes in the country by 50% by the
year 2020.
Ishmail said “311 drivers were arrested for
drunken driving, 38 for reckless and negligent driving, 856 for excessive speeding,
while 17 661 vehicles were impounded.”
