40 people arrested in Swllendam

Western Cape police today confirmed that 40 people were arrested in connection with the violent protests in Swellendam.

Nine injuries were reported

More than a few businesses were ransacked and damaged when angry residents went on a rampage overnight.

Police spokesperson Andre Traut said 40 suspects would appear in court once they have been charged with public violence.

He said “police officers were deployed to maintain law and order, three police vehicles were overturned”.
