A court order has suspended the demolition of informal houses in Lenasia for at least 24-hours, following an urgent court application by the Human Rights Commission.

The homes have been illegally erected on land owned by the City of Johannesburg.

The court granted the Gauteng department of local government and housing an opportunity to respond to the Commission's application, which will be heard tomorrow.

Commission spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, says he is pleased with the court’s decision.
