The Commercial, Stevedoring, Agricultural and Allied Workers Union has come out in support for the farm workers strike.

CSAAWU spokesperson Trevor Christian said that, together with other organisations, they aim to bring an end to the oppression and exploitation of farm-workers and farm dwellers.Christian said they are calling for a R4 500-a-month minimum wage for farm workers.

He compared the current situation to “apartheid conditions”.

“This is more than a strike about the R150, it is also about social conditions on the farms” he said.

Christian said that R60-a-day payment is not enough for a person to make a living.
