It is alleged that a large number of clinics and hospitals in the Eastern Cape are experiencing critical medicine and stock shortages.

It is believed that surgery and other procedures have virtually ground to a halt.

According to the Health-e website, this is the result of a wildcat strike by staff at the Mthatha Health Complex.

The strike is said to be affecting over 100 rural clinics and a number of hospitals.

About four-million people rely on the affected health services.
