The farm workers in the Western Cape have been involved in wage strike for a week,in the De Doorns area.

The unrest has resulted in the death of one person and the workers are demanding a minimum wage of R150 a day.

The workers rejected a R10 wage increase offer by the employers, which would have taken their salaries to R80 a day.

The workers are now planing to staged the biggest march on the 4th of December if governmnet does not increase their minimum daily wage.

The Food and Allied Workers Union led by its President, Attwell Nazo, and the General Secretary, Katishi Masemola, on Saturday visited and interacted with farm workers across the flash-points areas of the Western Cape.

Fawu General Secretary Katishi Masemola said the Minister of Safety and Security need to instruct police officials to exercise restraint from brutality and to use minimal force when confronted with challenging crowd behaviour.
