Boland community is up in arms over the planned closure of LK Zeeman Primary in Paarl, accusing the Western Cape Department of lying about where pupils will be placed.
LK Zeeman Primary is one of 20 schools in the province that Education MEC Donald Grant has decided to close at the end of the year.
Parents say while Grant has indicated that pupils will be transferred to schools that are better equipped to provide quality education they fear this will not be the case.
Spokesperson Paddy Attwell said the main reasons for placing pupils at Amstel Hof is that the school has better access to single grade classes, the numerousy and literacy results are much better there.
The school also has better facilities, which include a school library, sports fields and this provides better sports opportunities.
The district attorneys are holding meetings with the parents to discuss the issues that they have.
He adds that they are listening to the requests of the parents and would appreciate it if the parents would in turn also understand the reasons behind the move.
