The National Union of Mineworkers earlier today signed a wage increase agreement with the Chamber of Mines affiliated coal mines in Johannesburg.

NUM spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka says mine workers in the sector have not engaged in any illegal strikes this year.

Seshoka says an increase of five-percent was agreed upon as well as a promise that in a few months, further negotiations will be entered into for another salary adjustment.

He adds that the workers will receive a five percent increase along with a bonus to show some appreciation to them.
