The Western Cape Education department says it has received 22 complaints from parents who say that their children have not received their report cards, because their school fees were not paid up.

Spokesperson for Education MEC Donald Grant, Bronagh Casey said that the department and the district office have dealt with these cases promptly.

Casey said learners and their parents have the right to obtain the child’s report cards.

“Parents are requested to lodge complaints with, firstly with the principal, and then the district offices if they have troubles obtaining the report card: this practice cannot be condoned” she added.

She said that report cards cannot be withheld.
