A 37 year old police sergeant has been arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate for alleging raping a 65 year-old woman.

IPID National Spokesperson Moses Dlamini said it is alleged that the 65 year old woman asked for a lift from the sergeant.

Sergeant Benjamin Scheepers drove the woman to a graveyard where he pulled over the car and raped her.

The sergeant appeared at the Robertson Magistrate Court in the Western Cape on Tuesday and the case was remanded to the 24th of December for a formal bail application.
