Last week the South African Government announced the deployment of 400 South African National Defence Force members in the Central African Republic.

SANDF members are deployed to keep peace. Following this deployment the Democratic Alliance has asked the President to comply with Constitution in informing Parliament of SANDF deployment to the CAR.

DA Shadow Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Shahid Esau said that in terms of the Constitution, the Presidency needs to stipulate reasons why these members will be sent and how many.

“In terms of the constitution, we need to know; Parliament is not sitting now so it is the responsibility of the Presidency to inform people” Esau added.
