Department of education urgers community to be on the lookout for school vandals

 The Western Cape Department of Education on Thursday revealed that 24 schools were vandalized over the period from the 8th of December to the 14th of January 2013. 

Ministerial spokesperson Bronagh Casey said the Cape Winelands had the most incidents with six cases reported.

Both the West Coast District and the Overberg District had no reported cases.

Casey said that many of the light fittings and taps were targeted at these schools and it does affect the schools.

The Department is appealing to communities to help the protect the schools, the department says they have witnessed how communities can play a major role in preventing such incidents.
 
Casey adds that their eyes and ears can help us just like any security system when it come to protecting schools.
 
Casey said it is dissapointing that there are people in the community that see fit to damage and steal from schools and in many cases it does directly affect the learners.
