The National Sea Rescue Institute Port Elizabeth volunteer today responded to a call of man sick on a ship.

The 249 meter container vessel, the MAERSK CADIZ was on its way from Tangyuan, Singapore to Walvis Bay, in Namibia.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said a 33 year old Indian crewman had been suffering from abdominal pains and nausea.

Lambinon said the ships medic had been in communications with the WC Government Health EMS duty doctor, facilitated by MRCC since the 31st of January, and treatment was recommended by the EMS duty doctor but by midnight last night it was decided that the patient, who had shown little improvement, be casualty evacuated to the nearest appropriate hospital for further treatment.

He added that the patient was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
