New wage deal for farmworkers announced

The Minister of Labour Mildred Oliphant has today announced a new wage deal for farmworkers in the Western Cape. 
This comes after farmworkers went on an unprotected strike since last year over wages of between R69 and R75.
Western Cape farmworkers were demanding a wage increase of R150 per day with better living conditions on the farm. 
 Minster of Labour Mildred Oliphant said the new level of the minimum wage for the 1st of March 2013 to 28 February 2014, be packed at R105 per day for employees who work 9 hours a day or R11,66 per hour, R525,00 per week or R2274,82 per month.
Oliphant said the new sectoral determination will be spread over a three year period and that during year two and three wages be increase by Consumer Price Index.
