The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa has welcomed the intervention by the Minister of Public Enterprises Malusi Gigabe to the closure of operations at Medupi.

This is as a result of workers genuine and legitimate grievances.  Numsa believes its members in Medupi have all along maintained workers shall not return by signing a peace agreement and final warning.

Any settlements must exclude these conditions by employers.

Numsa’s National Spokesperson Castro Ngobese said the intervention was long overdue.

“We hope that a settlement will be found soon, therefore as leadership we will be visiting workers this saturday just to brief them to brief them with the engagement we have had with the minister” Ngobese said.

Ngobese added that they will be bringing the workers a possible settlement offer that they can accept or reject.
