Department of home affairs to assist fire victims in Stellenbosch

As from today, the Department of Home Affairs will deploy mobile units and officials in Khayamandi, Stellenbosch in order to issue Identity documents.

This comes after Minister Naledi Pandoor was told about a total of 900 shacks having been burnt down leaving about 4 500 people displaced and many without any enabling documents.

Home Affairs Spokesperson Lunga Ngqengelele added that Minister Naledi Pandoor has said that the department must find ways to assist and this is the response to her call.

Ngqengelele furthermore said the department must deploy resources to that people who could be helped with their application for their Identity documents and birth certificates.

He also highlighted that these will the be used to help them to apply for social grants and other services they require.
