Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa has condemned the attack and resulting in death of an Ekurhuleni Metro police officer.

Minister Mthethwa said police officers do not require permission from criminals to perform their duties.

The police minister warned that anyone who obstructs police in carrying their duties will be dealt with harshly.

Ministerial Spokesperson Zweli Mnisi said Minister Mthethwa has issued a stern warning that anyone who attacks or kills a police officer will face the full might of the law.

The Students for Law and Social Justice said the abuse of power by police violates the South African Constitution on a fundamental level.
