The National Sea Rescue Institute and volunteer rescue duty crew were activated following reports of a Bass fishing boat experiencing steerage mechanical failure on the Western side of Hartbeespoort Dam, off-shore of Lakeland, with two Johannesburg bass fishermen onboard.

The incident occurred this morning.

The NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam volunteer rescue duty crew launched their sea rescue craft AFROX RESCUER II and responded and on arrival on-scene.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said in rough water conditions and heavy rain, a tow-line was rigged and the casualty boat was towed to Infafi and once safely berthed no further assistance was required and there were no injuries.

Lambinon added that heavy rain and thunderstorms have continued since Friday making dam conditions very rough and the dam is currently at 108% full.
