Civil society group, People Against
Suffering Oppression and Poverty on Thursday accused the Department of Home
Affairs of not complying with a court order to allow for new asylum
applications at the Cape Town Refugee Reception Office.
In March the Western Cape High Court ruled
that the Home Affairs decision to close the refugee office to new asylum
applicants was unlawful.
The decision to close the refugee center
was challenged by several organisations including the Scalabrini Centre.

Miriyoga said the department has not complied with the court order and they
told people that they are looking to do some renovations at their offices in
Foreshore, Cape Town
Miriyoga added that asylum seekers
are still struggling as they have to go to other provinces to register.
