The Democratic Alliance has called on the Eastern Cape Education MEC Mandla Makupula to use his increase control of the provincial Department to deal with the teacher vacancy crisis in the region.
It has been reported that over 8 000 teacher post remain vacant, as the Basic education Department announced that is has withdrawn from the province.
And Van Vuuren added that whether or not she downgraded it will not have much affect on the management, in theEastern Cape

Edmund van Vuuren said that he has noted that the Minister has indicted that she
will downgrade the national intervention in the Eastern Cape
Van Vuuren adds that with all respect he doesn’t
think the national intervention hasn’t made any difference as per the auditor
general’s report.
“There are still more than 8 800 vacancies,
there are still 6 800 in excess, there are more than 5 000 teachers that
are on extended sick leave and all these things are still happening when there
was a national intervention in place,” said Van Vuuren.
And Van Vuuren added that whether or not she downgraded it will not have much affect on the management, in the
