The Minister of Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Lulu Xingwana, met with SAFA President, Kirsten Nematandani.

The meeting was part of government’s commitment to mobilise different sectors of society in the fight against the scourge of violence against women and children in our country.

Both parties said there is a need to eliminate this scourge.

Ministerial Spokesperson Cornelius Monama said both parties have acknowledged despite South Africa’s constitutional and legislative protection violence based on gender remains unacceptably high and that more needs to be done to fight it.

Monama added that they said the current spate of gender based violence and the brutality with which it is done is a matter of great concern to all South Africans as well as the painful reminder for the disregard for human life and the right of women and children.
