Learner shot dead at Spes Bona High School

Police have today confirmed that a pupil at Spes Bona High School in Athlone was shot in the head this morning. 

The exact details of the cause of the shooting are not known at this stage, but it has been reported that police are investigating the incident and a case of attempted murder has been opened. 

The Western Cape Education Department earlier confirmed that the learner was in critical condition  Hospital. 

WCED Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said it is understood that the perpetrator is not a learner at the school.

Casey added that the WCED officials are at the school to provide counselling to the learners and the teachers.

Reports have confirmed that the learner passed away on arrival at Groot Schuur Hospital.
