The Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Albert Fritz said protecting children should not be limited to themes and campaigns run by government.

This comes as this week is Child Protection Week.  MEC Fritz said it is important that parents understand the various options involved in protecting and safeguarding their children.

National Child Protection Week falls under the theme Working Together to Protect Children.

Fritz said that since March, three babies have been dumped in the Province.

Fritz urged mothers, especially those who are young, to rather take their children to the nearest social development building or police station, where the child will be able to take care of the child.

“We want to specifically say that this week highlights the basic human rights of children; the right to a safe environment, the right to not be abused, the right to be in an environment that is intellectually stimulating for the child” Fritz added.
