Pedestrian Safety Week launched

6 May 2013

This morning Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle together with MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato and Safely Home launched the Pedestrian Safety Week.

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said this is part of the United Nations global road safety week from the 6th until the 12th of May 2013.

During the launch safety demonstrations were conducted at the Imbsa Primary School in Phillipi and the Nelson Mandela High School in Crossroads.

Dube said this part of the campaign was to address the very serious issue which is that pedestrian fatalities are in fact the highest fatality rates in the province of all road deaths, and over and above that road deaths are the leading cause of children up to the age of 18 in the world.

“So this is something that was very, very important to the minister and to safely home to highlight,” added Dube.
