Government on Wednesday acknowledged that high levels of violent crime in South Africa are having a significant negative impact on the country’s economy.

Senior Research at the Institute for Security Studies Johan Burger said crime in South Africa has an effect on everything.

Burger said that he feels that they are correct and it’s already a huge threat forward with them acknowledging the impact that crime is making both on the economy and on many other areas.

“The economic impact I think is a big concern for a number of reasons, it’s costing the average South African a large portion of their monthly income for private security systems,” explained Burger.
