National Commissioner of SAPS General Riah Phiyega on Thursday announced the immediate dismissal of Captain Lesiba Tshabalala.

39-year-old Tshabalala was recently arrested in Sasolburg following an armed robbery.

Brigadier Phuti Setati said his dismissal follows an intensive investigation mounted by the police, which positively linked him to an armed robbery committed in Mamelodi in 1994.

Setati said the officer was convicted a sentenced on the first armed robbery in 1996 after serving part of the sentence, he appealed against the sentence of which he later abandoned.

Setati further said it emerged when he was appearing on another armed robbery case that he evaded in 1996 and as a result he was dismissed from the SAPS.
