The Western Cape Department of Education has today began training of about 9 000 Grade 7 to 12 educators; this is a step to improve the quality of delivery of the curriculum in schools.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said the purpose is to equip educators with the thorough knowledge of the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement documents for their subject areas before implementation next year.

Casey added that response to the implementation of CAPS has been positive.

Casey also said teachers have reported to the WCED that it strengthens the curriculum and allows educators to focus much more on what must be taught and when.

“We are very pleased that there was a great turnout at this training venue, with even more educators than expected having arrived for training.” Casey added
