The Congress of South African Trade Union in the North West said it is disappointed that the Department of Basic Education in the province is planning to close a number of farm schools in the Kaunda Region.

Cosatu said the continued closure of the schools will be taking away the rights of the children to education and will increase child labour.

Cosatu Provincial Secretary Solly Phetoe said it is winter now and very difficult for learners to go to school.

Phetoe further said in 2005 Cosatu opposed the closure of these schools and this should be discussed with members of the community and they need to give consent.
