Cosatu said the march is prompted by the
continued violation of the workers’ rights by the South African employers
especially those who are operating in the platinum belt.
Cosatu Provincial Secretary Solly Phetoe said that as union they will
continue to defend their workers rights, particularly those in the mining
industry where the rights of workers have been violated by the employer
undermining the workers rights by developing forms of workers to resign from
the unions and join the other unions.
“Workers are also being intimidated and
threatened on a daily basis and we are demanding that people at Lonmin and
Impala is that they must open the office at the NUM make sure that all workers
join the union of their choice, protect the workers during working hours and
allow unions to be treated the same,” added Phetoe.
