The Democratic Alliance today said the
decision by President Jacob Zuma to oppose an application by the Council for
the Advancement of the SA Constitution, to the Constitutional
Court to force the President to make a permanent
National Director of Public Prosecutions appointment is deeply regrettable.
DA
Researcher Alexander Leisegang said that the Presidents decision to approach
application means that the Taxpayer will now have to fit the bill for legal
costs in a case seeking firstly for the president to execute his duties as head
of state.
“This application to the constitutional
court should not have been necessary in the first place and represents a
failing presidency,” said Leisesang.
She added that section 237 of the constitution
sates that all constitutional obligations must be performed diligently and
without delay.
Furthermore she said that if President Zuma
has any reasonable arguments for not for not appointing a permanent NDPP the DA
together will all South Africans would like to hear it.
She also said that if he doesn't he must
make the appointment without further delay
