The Department of
Basic Education said it has committed itself to eradicating mud schools in the
country by the end of the 2015 financial year.

Spokesperson Panyaza Lesufi said the challenge of mud schools is prominent in
the Eastern Cape
Lesufi said that
mud structures would be a thing of the past in the country within the next two
years.
Lesufi added that
the announcement of the eradication of these schools is nothing new and added
that the President stated it in his State of the Nation address.
“Minister Motshekga
stated it in her Budget Vote Speech and that is the reason why we are puzzled
by organisations that protest against mud schools when we have already
committed ourselves by the end of the 2015 financial year,” Lesufi added.
