Dr Jean Swanson passed away this morning

ANC Western Cape has paid tribute to the late former Deputy Minister of Social Development Dr Jean Swanson hailing her as a true patriot of her country.

Dr Swanson- passed away this morning following a long illness.

Dr Swanson- was deputy Minister of Social Development from 2004 to 2009.

She also served on several parliamentary portofolio committees which include Education, Arts and Culture, Quality of Life and Status of Women, Trade and Industry, Public Enterprises and Joint rules Committees.

Swanson’s eldest daughter Jenine Benjamin said her mother passed away this morning after a long illness.

Benjamin added that funeral arrangements will not be finalised yet as they have to inform other relatives that are abroad.

ANC in the Western Cape issued a statement that described Dr Jean as one of those revolutionaries who in the 80’s kept the flame of the struggle while in the UK.

“She was a musical activist who used her songs to remind and make the world aware of struggle against apartheid.” Said Marius Fransman on the statement.
