The Democratic Alliance said it strongly condemns the alleged assault of a farmworker by a farm owner in the Overberg.

According to Flippie Engelbrecht, the farm owner slapped and kicked him so hard that his ears bled and he later started suffering from epileptic seizures.

The farm owner is expected to appear in court at the end of the month.

Farm unions and different organisations are expected to protest in court.

DA MP of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Annette Steyn said people need to work together and respect each other more especially in the farming community.

Steyn added that the law needs to take its cause and people must respect the outcome of the law.
