Graca Marchel had details captured for launch of Smart ID card

Graca Machel's on Friday had her biometric details, photograph and electronic signature captured by senior Home Affairs officials at the Nelson Mandela Foundation offices in Houghton Johannesburg as part of preparations for the launch of the Smart ID Card scheduled for Mandela Day on 18 July 2013. 

She follows in the steps of President Jacob Zuma and Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe.

Machel said that it is also an opportunity for the country to engage especially young people for them to know how important it is to have one’s identity legally registered.

“So that one can fully exercise your rights but also exercise fully your responsibly,” added Machel.
