Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato said the provincial government is not happy with the green paper on policing.

The green paper set out a broad vision for the policing strategy and practice over the medium to long-term.

Plato said there are certain parts of the green paper they are not happy about including the single service police issue which means government wants to do away with Metro Police.

Plato added that the metro police in Cape Town and other areas such as Mamesberry is doing exceptionally well, specifically looking at the gang and drug unit of the metro police.

The Metro Police are playing a big part in fighting gang violence on the Cape Flats and if that falls away then the problem will just get bigger, added Plato.
