Western Cape MEC of Education Donald Grant today welcomed learners back to school for their third term.

MEC Grant said the initial reports from eight education districts show that the first day back at school was without any major problems.

This morning I visited Ysterplaat Primary School to join the Provincial Departments of Community Safety, Transport and Public Works and the City of Cape Town in a joint Pedestrian Safety Programme.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said the Department is currently analysing the results of schools, especially under-performing schools, to determine where more focus and assistance and support this term for Grade 12 learners.

“Administratively this term, schools will be planning for the 2014 school year; schools will receive their planning calendars for 2014 and they will also be finalising their learner involvement” Casey added.

Casey also said that other Grade 12 programmes will continue throughout the third term, like their telematics and tutoring program.
