Western Cape MEC of Local Government Anton Bredell has announced that he will be asking the provincial cabinet to intervene in the embattled Oudtshoorn municipality.

MEC Bredell has blamed all councillors in the municipality of failing to approve its 2013/2014 budget by the deadline which was July 1st.

Ministerial Spokesperson Peter Pullen said the MEC this week issued letters to the councillors that there need to be an urgent meeting regarding this issue.

Pullen added that this meeting aims to pave way for the municipal by-election to be held on the 7th of August 2013.
