Metrorail concerned about assault on commuters

Metrorail in the Western Cape said it is concerned about high increase of assault of commuters by security guards and Metrorail employees.

 Metrorail Regional Manager Mthuthuzeli Swartz said he wants to make it clear that contracted security guards and Metrorail employees do not have the mandate to manhandle or to treat commuters with disrespect.

Swartz added they have taken action against those employees found that were identified in the past.

Meanwhile cable theft is also on the increase with recent theft being reported in Stellenbosch. Metrorail Regional Manager Mthuthuzeli Swartz said cable theft remains a major problem affecting their services. 

However Swartz said between the months of June/July there has been a decrease of cable theft of 65 percent. 

Swartz they are tightening up Security and through their visibility these syndicates are moving to the outskirts of the City where they are perpetrating these incidents.
