The Opposition to Urban Tolling
Alliance said it is shocked at the South African National Roads Agency Limited,
waste of money in advertising.
It has been reported that Sanral has
spent over R85 million per annum to advertise e-tolls.
OUTA Chairperson Wayne Duvenage said
the size of advertising budget is enjoyed by few South
Africa ’s top
multi-billion rand corporate brands operating in highly competitive
industries.
Duvenage added that they are shocked
by the amount, because that amount is not spent by huge organisations working
in competitive environments, Sanral works in a monopoly environment and should
not to spend that much.
“The sad thing is that they’ve
already spent that money, and it has resulted in a small uptake with the e-tags
that they are trying to sell.
“It proves that the whole process is
being rejected, and it doesn’t matter how much they throw at advertising; it’s
not going to change the public’s perception” Duvenage also said.
